All iSummit keynote presentations were streamed live to attendees in Second Life and questions could be posed to speakers and panel members from online participants.
Artwork from the Summit's Artists in Residence programme was viewable at the Second Life event, which took place at the Centre for Public Diplomacy's Annenberg Island in Second Life. Online visitors could also enjoy music concerts streamed from the real-world summit in Dubrovnik, access information resources and received free t-shirts for their avatars.
The online conference was modelled to offer a similar setting to the real-world event in Dubrovnik, a beautiful coastal town nestled at the foot of a mountain next to the Adriatic Sea, while still offering an international feel. The Second Life summit facility made use of similar architecture to the Revelin venue of the real-world conference and was positioned on the Annenberg coastline.
The parallel online Summit also attracted visitors in Second Life who were not familiar with the commons, helping to spread consciousness of sharing culture and CC licences. It also provided an online meeting place where visitors could interact with real-world conference attendees who were simultaneously present at the online event, such as iCommons' executive director, Heather Ford.
Thanks to the "Second Summit" it was possible for visitors all over the world to see the likes of Creative Commons' founder Larry Lessig delivering keynote addresses and allowed them to be active participants in the real-world event, something which iCommons is planning to repeat for the 2008 Summit to be held in Sapporo, Japan.
This is some really interesting stuff. I am new to SL, and after having had to leave the conference early, I logged in at home to see what it was all about - but at that time the conference program was already over I think (I guess the boat trip wasn't transferred live ;))
What I am really interested in now is whether recordings of the sessions etc will be posted online - hopefully under just a by- license or a by-sa. I really want to listen to/watch some of the presentations that I could not attend, but it would also be fun to do remixes - lipsyncing Lessig to say he promotes perpetual copyright ;) Stian · Hamar (Norway) · Jun 18th, 2007 3:03 pm

your take:
We will be posting the videos of the keynote presentations (or at least links to them) in the cultural database section of this site. And, naturally, anything posted here will be under the site's default license, which is BY 3.0, unless otherwise stated.
So keep checking in. Rebecca Kahn, iCommons reporter (South Africa) · Jul 02nd, 2007 10:24 pm
