Change in node voting system
Daniela Faris, Johannesburg (South Africa) · 10/8/2007 16:59

A message from Heather regarding changes in the node voting system:

At the board meeting in July, we discussed voting for nodes and decided that for the time being, nodes wouldn't need to be voted onto the site. Instead, the iCommons staff will approve nodes using the criteria that we have in place at the moment that nodes agree to abide by node policies and that they have someone to do with free/sharing culture. This was mostly because some board members felt that nodes shouldn't be judged wholly on their online presence, and that we needed to get more specific about the voting process for nodes (as opposed to articles) in the future.

So the way it works is that once you've uploaded the node, it will go into the editing queue for 48 hours where everyone can make comments on your node and then it will be approved (or sent back to you for re-editing if it doesn't fulfill the criteria). You can invite people to join the node (and join the node) while its in the editing queue, as well as write testimonials and wall posts.

Once we've set up the Node Council, the Council will be responsible for approving or denying new nodes.

We have also received feedback on making improvements to nodes which we are busy with at the moment.

There are loads of development tasks on the schedule and we only have one developer on staff, so if you're interested in helping out to build facebook apps etc, please let us know :)

More about how to develop your node is here: http://icommons.org/blogs/how-icommonsorg-nodes-work

And shout if you have any questions or suggestions!
