Here are a few pictures from the iCommons Summit planning workshop held in Johannesburg over the last two days. Representatives from CC Japan, Sapporo city, Digital Garage, Second Life, the Summit 07 education track, the iCommons board and Second Life attended the event to discuss the Summit programme and organisation. See the full list of participants here, as well as the goals for the workshop.
We kicked off the event with a sugar-induced frenzy involving building 3D models of our dream iCommons Summit venues. This allowed us to identify a framework for how we could structure the programme, based on the activities and spaces suggested by the workshop participants. We also brainstormed around our Summit audience, our goals and suggested tracks or themes for the summit.
On day two we had to come back to reality. The CC Japan, Sapporo city and Digital Garage representatives gave presentations on the actual Summit venue (the Sapporo Convention Centre) and told us more about the Japanese cultural, linguistic, legal and funding landscape in order to give us a better frame of reference about the city in which the iSummit will take place.
From here we chatted and problem solved around topics such as facilitation, translation, documentation of the event, the structure of the programme and much more. Full notes can be found here.
We ended off the workshop on a practical note, by identifying 'to do' lists for each of these categories, and publicly committed ourselves to undertaking some of these tasks. The to-do lists are here, and feel free to volunteer too!
There are some photographs from the event on Flickr, and more should be uploaded soon. We also had a videographer documenting the event, and we should be able to point you to this footage online next week. Audio clips will also be made available: so stayed tuned!
UPDATE: Here is a page with a summary of all of the media produced from the workshop. Immerse yourself in audio recordings, video and presentations- it'll feel like you were with the rest of the gang in sunny South Africa!

Looked through the photos and look forward to the video.
The team that documented the wiki did a fabulous job. Do convey my kudos to all.

I know the ToDo list is here. http://wiki.icommons.org/index.php/Day_2#Documentation
How do I volunteer for a certain task? Do I just add my name to the list in this page? I didn't see anyone else adding their names and felt awkward adding mine.
Please advise.

We have neatened up the notes on the wiki, and have added a Commitments page to the list. So I reckon you should add your name on to the list on this page, and what you'd like to do!
Thanks for offering to help - and don't ever feel awkward with us iCommoners! ;)
